Labour pricing
Plasterer Day Rate in the UK
Use a current plasterer day-rate benchmark without confusing labour time with an all-in fixed project price.
Checkatrade's June 2026 UK planning average is about £300 per day for a plasterer. That is useful for checking labour allowances, but it does not automatically include a labourer, materials, travel, protection, waste, access equipment, VAT or the risk of an undefined repair.
What changes the result?
A useful calculation starts with the physical scope and the written commercial terms. These are the factors to make explicit:
- Number and mix of tradespeople
- Materials and consumables
- Preparation and protection time
- Travel, waste and access equipment
- VAT, minimum attendance and return visits
Use one scope for every quote
Give each business the same information and ask it to resolve the same boundaries. That makes the totals more comparable and exposes work left as an allowance or exclusion.
- Ask who is included in the day rate
- Define the expected work and finish
- Record materials and expenses separately
- Prefer a fixed scope where quantity risk is avoidable
What the £300 benchmark means
The cited figure is an average planning observation, not a regulated or universal rate. Regional demand, experience, specialist work and the number of people on site can change it. Ask whether the rate covers one plasterer, a plasterer plus labourer, a full working day and any travel time.
Day rate or fixed project price?
A day rate can suit exploratory repairs or a defined schedule of small jobs where quantities cannot be known in advance. A fixed price is easier to compare when the rooms, surfaces and preparation can be inspected and specified. If using day work, agree timesheets, material markups, spending authority and a review point.
Build the all-in comparison
Put labour beside materials, protection, towers or scaffold, waste, parking, travel and VAT. Then compare the likely all-in cost and risk with a fixed quote. The cheapest daily figure can produce the larger invoice if productivity, crew composition or scope is unclear.
- Rate and crew composition
- Expected output or task schedule
- Materials and markup
- Expenses, access and waste
- VAT, records and approval limit
Questions people ask
What is a plasterer's day rate in the UK?
Checkatrade's June 2026 planning average is about £300 per day. Local demand, specialist skill, crew size and inclusions can move the actual rate.
Does a plasterer day rate include materials?
Do not assume it does. Ask for labour, materials, consumables, access, travel, waste and VAT to be stated separately.
Is a day rate cheaper than a fixed quote?
Not inherently. Day work leaves quantity risk with the customer; a fixed price is often easier to compare when the scope can be defined.
How can I control a day-work plastering job?
Use a written task schedule, named crew, daily records, agreed material markup, spending authority and a review point before exceeding the budget.
